Find Your Inner Calm

My office is designed to feel like a welcoming living room. I'll invite you to take off your outdoor shoes and settle onto a couch or chair. I'll offer you a pot of tea and we will set your goal for the session.

If you feel it will be helpful to you, a support person is welcome to join you for any part, or all, of a counselling session. There's a separate comfortable sitting room with books and wifi for someone to wait for you.

Babies are welcome to join and breastfeeding is always ok.

In my years working for a school board I learned that the best way for things to change in the life of a teenager was to involve the parents in some of the counselling journey. I'll invite you to take off your outdoor shoes and settle onto a couch or chair. I'll offer you a pot of tea and we will set your goal for the session.

The plan for counselling will likely include the teenager and parent(s) each having some individual counselling time. There's a separate comfortable sitting room with books and wifi.

Babies are welcome to join and breastfeeding is always ok.

This meeting will be approximately 15 minutes and will be in-person, by phone or by video.  The goal of this meeting is to help a teenager determine if I might be a good fit before choosing to begin counselling.

As a school-based social worker it was very typical for me to meet with a high school student very briefly before counselling began.

The fee for this meeting is $40.  The full amount will be deducted from the fee of the first scheduled counselling session.

Because this is not a counselling session, a consent form will not be signed.

This option may be best if you will benefit from some planned outdoor activity and fresh air. We will meet at my office along the river and spend 45 minutes walking at your pace along the paved waterfront path. We will return to the office to summarize our session on paper.

You're welcome to bring a child in a stroller.

This option may be best if you live outside of the Sarnia area, if you do not feel well enough to attend in person, or if you're fitting a counselling session into a one-hour lunch break.

Video counselling will use Skype because it provides an encrypted platform.

The office is designed to feel like a cozy living room. The therapist will invite you to take off your outdoor shoes and settle onto a couch or chair.

Each session will start by checking in with how you're feeling.  Then we will set your goal for this session specifically or continue working on the goals you set for the therapy process.

Typically individual counselling sessions with Jenni are 1.25 hr.

Sessions with Masters Student Interns are 50 minutes to allow additional time for record keeping.

If you feel it will be helpful, a support person is welcome to join you for any part, or all, of a counselling session.

Babies are welcome to join and breastfeeding or bottle feeding is always ok.

This option is lovely if you will benefit from some planned outdoor activity and fresh air.

We will meet at a pretty and convenient trail in Sarnia and spend 50 minutes walking at your pace.  At the end of the walk, I will return to the office to make notes from our session in your file.

Walk locations are either:

- Meeting at the office downtown to walk the paved waterfront trail loop

- Meeting at the Howard Watson trail access next to the pedestrian cosswalk on Michigan Ave to walk the gravel tree-lined trail.

You're welcome to bring a child in a stroller.

This option may be best if you live outside of the Sarnia area, if you do not feel well enough to attend in person, or if you're fitting a counselling session into a one-hour lunch break.

Most phone and video sessions are accompanied by text or email exchange to share documents and otherwise add to the richness of the distanced sessions.

Video counselling will use Zoom.  We have a password protected Zoom room that will be sent to you by email or text before the session.

There are 2 options:

50 minute "Lunch Break Session"

1.25hr regular phone or video session

Typically couples' sessions are 1.5 hr to allow time for both people to speak and reflect.

We may plan together to shorten or extend the session if you feel that’s best.  In these cases, your fee will be adjusted.

Often couples request to have individual counselling sessions as well.

I believe that the best way for things to change in the life of a child or teenager is to involve parents in at least some of the counselling journey.

These sessions have been very useful for parents and their 20-somethings living at home too.   I've struggled to name the service to be inclusive of more families.

I'll invite you to take off your outdoor shoes and settle onto a couch or chairs.  I'll bring you a hot tea or cold water to drink.

Each session will start by checking in with how you're feeling.  Then we will set your goal for this 1.25 - 1.5 hour session or continue working on the goals you have already set for the therapy process.

Note that this session is always longer than 1 hour in order to allow time for each person to speak and reflect.

If the child or teen is hesitant to begin counselling, the Intro Meeting may be helpful.

Babies are welcome to join and breastfeeding or bottle feeding is always ok.

This meeting will be approximately 15 minutes and will be in the format that regular counselling sessions will be (in person at the office, on a walk, by phone or by video).

The goal of this meeting is to help someone determine if the therapist might be a good fit before choosing to begin counselling.

The therapist will describe how sessions typically flow.  The family can ask questions to clarify the process and should discuss any accessibility needs.

The fee for this meeting is $40.  The full amount will be deducted from the fee of the first scheduled counselling session.

Because this is not a counselling session, a consent form will not be signed and the therapist will not make notes.
